Studying A Foreign Language Abroad Words

Colloquial (adj)
Def: language or words that are colloquial are used mainly in informal conversations rather than in writing or formal speech
Sentence: The new co-worker's rudeness soon began to use a colloquial expression to rub me the wrong way.


Prompts (adj)
Def: done quickly, immediately, or at the right time.
Sentence: Prompt action must be taken.

Replicate (v)
Def: if you replicate someone's work, a scientific study etc, you do it again, or try to get the same result again.
Sentence: There is a need for further research to replicate these findings.

Abstract (adj)
Def: based on general ideas or principles rather than specific examples or real events.
Sentence: By the age of seven, children are capable of thinking in abstract terms.

Immersion (n)
Def: the fact of being completely involved in something you are doing.
Sentence: My immersion in black music and culture.

Tenure (n)
Def: the period of time when someone has an important job.
Sentence: The company has doubled in value during his tenure.

Tribulation (n)
Def: serious trouble or a serious problem.
Sentence: Even close friends were unaware of the tribulations she faced.

Rot (v)
Def: to suffer or be punished for a long time - used especially when you are angry with someone.
Sentence: I hope the people who did this rot in hell.

Rescue (v)
Def: to save someone or something from a situation of danger or harm.
Sentence: Survivors of the crash were rescued by helicopter.

Disaster (n)
Def: a sudden event such as a flood, storm, or accident which causes great damage or suffering.
Sentence: One hundred and twenty people died in China's worst     air disaster.
